Share Before You’re Ready
One of the biggest shifts we see in confident leaders is their willingness to share ideas before they’re fully formed. Rather than waiting until the end to present a polished solution, they invite input early in the process. It’s not about having all the answers, it’s about creating better ones together.
Feedback early is a gift.
Feedback late is a frustration.
It’s the same feedback the only thing different is the timing
If you genuinely want to achieve the best outcome and have the required level of buy-in from those around you then you need to ask earlier than you are comfortable with.
Rethink : Set Up Feedback Sessions for Success
As well as the timing the set up of the feedback session is critical.
You need to ask challenging questions;
Why might this not work?
What am I missing here?
How do you think this resonates with other key stakeholders?
Control the narrative so you get constructive considered thoughts not just instant reactions.
This also means sharing the proposal and questions well in advance so people have time to consider their input.
Refocus: Identify Strategic Areas for Early Input
Where in the business right now should I be seeking wider input?
Next year's budgets
Revising the strategy
Creating new offerings
Trust that you have selected the right people around you and then invite them into the process early. You have very little to lose and lots to gain by adopting an ‘early and wide’ approach.
Where in the past have I not consulted early enough which resulted in conflict later or a low level of commitment from my leaders or the wider team?
Who from outside of the business would give me an objective perspective on this?
